History of the ECE Department: 1960-1969

 

1962    
First Master of Engineering degree awarded
     
1963    
First formal organizational meeting for the UF Student Satellite Tracking Station. Read the recollections of Dick Flagg about the UF Student Satellite Tracking Station.  
1964    
Construction began on five buildings to form the south engineering complex and the future home of the Department of Electrical Engineering  
    Dr. Wayne Chen
1965  
Dr. Wayne Chen becomes Department Chair. Dr. Chen has a national reputation as the inventor of the semiconductor logic system used by the Bell Telephone System nationwide.
1966  
Original Benton Hall torn down to make room for Grinter Hall.
1967    
The South Engineering Complex is completed.  EE moves into the newly completed Larsen and Benton Halls
The ECE Honor Society, Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) was founded on December 1st.  
1969    
Graduate enrollment breaks 100
