Senior Design

The design experience is integrated throughout the curriculum, culminating in EEL 4914C (Electrical Engineering Design).  In this design course, each student is usually a member of a design group consisting of two or three students.  This group completes a design project to specifications provided by a faculty mbmer, much as in industry.  The student does have the freedom to chose his/her own design project.

An alternative to EEL 4914C is the Integrated Produce and Process Design (EEL 4912 and EEL 4913) which begins each Fall term and continues through the Spring term.   Engineering students of all disciplines seeking to enhance their qualifications through a practice-oriented program may apply for this program.  The goal of this program is to have students in their senior year practice engineering on real, industry-sponsored design projects to improve their engineering education and enhance their opportunity for employment. The program provides both classroom and laboratory experience. Through this program, the student learns how fundamental engineering science is relevant to effective product and process design, that design involves not just project function but also producibility, cost, schedule, reliability, customer preference and life cycle issues, how to complete projects on time and within budget, that engineering is a multi-disciplinary effort. Working in small multi-disciplinary project teams, students get important practical experience in team work and communication as well as in developing their leadership, management and people skills.  Each team is coached by a faculty member and interfaces with liaison engineers of the companies that sponsor design projects.
