Dr. Michael Fang gave the keynote speech, "A Few Selected Research Issues in Wireless Network Modeling, Analysis and Design," at the 30th IEEE International Performance Computing and Communications Conference (IPCCC'2011) held in Orlando, Florida, November 17-19, 2011

Dr. Jose Principe gave the plenary lecture at the 46th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, Pacific Grove California.

Dr. Vladimir Rakov received one of the two Best Conference Paper Awards (with over 200 papers presented) at the 7th Asia-Pacific International Conference on Lightning, Chengdu, China, November  1-4, 2011. The paper is titled "On the Origin of Two Types of Current Pulses Observed During the Initial Stage of Upward Lightning”and is authored by  D. Flache, V.A. Rakov, F.H. Heidler, W.J. Zischank, and R. Thottappillil. D. Flache is a Masters student from the Federal University of Armed Forces, Munich, Germany, who did his thesis under Rakov's supervision at UF.

Dr. Yuguang 'Michael' Fang received the 2011 Florida Blue Key/UF Homecoming Distinguished Faculty Award.  This award is given to faculty who demonstrate outstanding service and dedication to the University. October 24, 2011

Dr. Vladimir Rakov is an invited expert to the International Symposium on Lightning Protection being held in Nepal in October 2011. Dr. Rakov will be giving tutorial lectures on lightning physics and lightning protection.

Shreeharsh Mallick, one of Dr. Rakov’s Ph.D. students, has been appointed as a member (representing UF) of the collegiate committee for the 2012 IEEE Power & Energy Society Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition, Orlando, Florida, May 7-10, 2012.

Congratulations to Dr. John Harris on becoming the new ECE Department Chair, Aug 29, 2011.

Paul Muri, Ph.D. student of Dr. Janise McNair, has been selected to be in the inaugural class of the NASA Space Technology Research Fellows. He will perform innovative space technology research at the University of Florida and will intern at a selected NASA center. The NASA press release is here:

Chi Zhang, one of Dr. Fang's Ph.D. students, is the 2011 recipient of the College of Engineering Attribute Graduate Student Award for Creativity.  Mr. Zhang will receive the award at the New Student Convocation, August 19, 2011.

The Board of Governors of the International Neural Network Society (INNS) has voted to induct Dr. Jose Principe into the INNS College of Fellows, April 23, 2011.

Dr. Michael Fang was selected for the 2010-2011 Ph.D. Dissertation Adviser/Mentor Award by UF's Graduate School.

Shuji Fujimaru, a PhD student working with Dr. Robert Moore, took 2nd prize overall in the International Union of Radio Science student paper competition, held January 6, 2011 in Boulder, Colorado. The title of his paper is, "Analysis of Time-of-Arrival Observations Performed During ELF/VLF Wave Generation Experiments at HAARP."

Dr. Dapeng Wu was selected to serve as the Technical Program Committee Co-Chair for IEEE INFOCOM 2012 which will be held in Orlando, Florida, March 25-30, 2012

Dr. David Arnold has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Pramod P. Khargonekar Junior Faculty Award for Excellence, February 25, 2011.

UF researchers in CHREC say their supercomputer is the world’s fastest reconfigurable supercomputer, UF News, February 15, 2011.

Dr. Jose Fortes gave one of the keynote addresses at the CUTE 2011: 6th International Conference on Ubiquitous Information Technologies and Applications, December 15-17, 2011.  The title of his talk was "Towards the ubiquitous cloud: multi-cloud systems".  Click here for the abstract.
