Student Chapter Activities

 

Our student chapters are very active in several competitions and need assistance with the cost of travel to competitions and conferences, supplies, etc.  If you wish to make a donation to help our student chapters, you may print the PDF form or you may wish to use the Online Giving version.

IEEE
Each year, IEEE Student Chapter attends the Southeast Conference where they participate against other universities in competitions, attend technical presentations of papers, technical tutorials and workshops, industrial exhibits, professional training, and social events.  

One of the highlights of the Southeast Conference is the competitions. One of our teams will participates in the Hardware Contest to overcome a pre-defined robot obstacle course.  The UF hardware team won first place in 2002 in the robot competition.   Our other team will participate in the Software Contest where the teams are given a series of defined programming problems to solve.  The teams are ranked according to the most problems solved in the least amount of time.

HKN
HKN (Eta Kappa Nu), the honor society of the Department, performs many services to the department and the college.  They assist Tau Beta Pi (College of Engineering Honor Society) administer the SECME (SouthEastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering) competition for elementary through high school students, assist with the departmental course evaluations, organize the spring banquet, and assist the department wherever needed.

MIL
Students in the MIL compete in the International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition sponsored by the Autonomous Unmanned Vehicle Systems International and the Office of Naval Research.  The team finished first in 2005, 2006 and 2007 with the SubjuGator submarines. The MIL also participated in the 2007 DARPA Urban Grand Challenge (with CIMAR) and will compete in a robot lawnmower competition in 2010.
