Research Laboratory for Control Systems & Avionics

The Research Laboratory for Control Systems and Avionics, under the direction of Dr. Haniph Latchman, is concerned with the application of research in linear and non-linear systems control and the development of both analog and digital instruments for measuring dynamic quantities. Research areas in the laboratory include autopilot design, multifunctional avionic instrumentation, graphic pilot interface, and solid-state sensor applications to avionics.

Currently, the laboratory has two major research projects. One project involves developing and implementing an integrated electronic/optical system for the generation and graphical presentation of environmental and operating information in a vehicle operator's direct line of vision. The focus of the other research project is designing an instrument that is capable of estimating the heading and the roll and pitch angles of a plane by using new conception sensors with high-precision sensitivity and advanced techniques for signal processing and filtering.
